New Hampshire Announces Expansion of PFML to Include Mental Wellbeing Support

March 25, 2025

On February 6, 2025, the New Hampshire Insurance Department announced the expansion of the New Hampshire Paid Family and Medical Leave (NH PFML) Program to include mental wellbeing support. Specifically, employees enrolled in an employer-sponsored NH PFML plan will now have access to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) services.

These services will provide employees with an initial clinical assessment, personalized consultations with therapists, structured therapy modules, and ongoing mental health support. The expanded services aim to address conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and insomnia. The additional program is available exclusively to employees enrolled in employer-sponsored NH PFML plans. Employers can choose how to structure the benefit, whether covering the full cost, implementing an employee contribution, or utilizing a shared-cost approach. The 2025 maximum weekly benefit amount for NH PFML is $2,031.92, up from $1,945.38.

Employers who participate in the NH PFML program should ensure they are providing access to CBT services beginning February 2025. NH PFML insurance may be purchased from MetLife, the state’s insurance partner for NH PFML.
