New York Pay Transparency Laws - What They Mean for Employers

June 27, 2023

New York State will join the growing list of states enacting pay transparency laws. Effective September 17, 2023, New York will begin enforcing additional requirements on employers regarding disclosing compensation or compensation ranges in job postings.

Let's take a look at three key takeaways.

1. Covered Employers

The law applies to employers in New York with four or more employees, and requires that covered employers, employment agencies and agents disclose compensation or salary ranges in job postings, promotions or transfer opportunities.

2. Be Prepared

Employers should proactively review human resources policies and practices in to ensure a seamless transition to complying with the law's requirements.

3. Solicit Assistance

Utilize available resources, such as NFP's Compensation Consulting team, auditors and legal personnel, to preemptively identify and resolve any potential issues that could give rise to a complaint.
