Employment/Membership Types

Southeast Quadrant MCCU has three classifications of employees/members, described below.

Volunteer Technicians receive no renumeration for calls covered. However, costs to the technician associated with volunteering at SEQ (such as mileage to and from SEQ's quarters) are tax-deductible according to limits established by the IRS. Volunteers are subject to the same shift requirements as Stipend/Pay-Per-Call employees.

Stipend/Pay-Per-Call Technicians are paid a flat rate for each call responded to. No distinction is made for the nature of the call or care provided by the technician. Technicians must meet a minimum monthly hours requirement but may sign up for any available shifts at any time, whenever they wish. They may also work as many hours each week as they wish.

Hourly Staff Technicians are paid an hourly rate for each hour worked, regardless of number of calls covered. There are different types of hourly positions:
  • Perdiem staff provide availability for each week and are assigned shifts by the chief technician or staffing coordinator. No guarantees are made as to the number of hours that will be offered in any given week.
  • Part-time staff generally work a fixed schedule each week, less than 32 total hours each week.
  • Full-time staff generally work a fixed schedule each week, with a minimum of 32-40 scheduled hours.

There are other differences between employee/membership classifications; refer to the SEQ by-laws and policies and procedures.
