A SAG-AFTRA bond is required for any production company that wants to hire union performers for their project. This includes producers of films, television shows, commercials, new media, and other types of entertainment productions. Independent filmmakers, major studios, and commercial production companies that work with union talent must become a SAG-AFTRA signatory and post a bond as part of the signatory process.

The SAG-AFTRA bond amount is typically based on the estimated wages and benefits owed to union performers during the first two weeks of production, which often starts at a minimum of $20,000 but can be higher depending on the size of the project. The premium is typically 1 to 5% of the bond amount.
